Education

Associates of Arts from Kent State 2014 Bach of Science in Education, Major Educational Studies, Kent State MAY 2015 GPA 3.132 ( Three hundred hour internship which earned 10 credit hours was completed from Jan. 2015 to May 3, 2015.) I worked in middle school, grades 6 to 8, in an ICU program, helping students who were falling behind in their assignments. I also worked in a third grade class as a teacher's assistant. I helped prepare materials for units, graded math and language arts quizzes and learned to chart results to help plan intervention lessons. I worked with small groups doing activities to reinforce the day’s lessons. I also worked with students who had trouble with math and reading.

Experience

During my field experiences with grades 4 to 6, I tutored students in math and language arts. Since I completed most of my studies toward a middle school degree, I had to study for teaching two subjects and mine were language arts and history. To complete that degree I would need about one more semester of classes and a semester of student teaching. With my present major, Educational Studies, I did a 300 hour internship working with a middle school (6th to 8th grade) intensive care class. In the middle school program which was called, ICU, I helped students who were falling behind in their assignments. My time was spent tutoring math, language arts, and any other homework help that was needed. With the students who lacked motivation, I tried to find ways to encourage them and see why their studies were important. For some more difficult students, I researched ideas on careers they were interested to help them see they needed to work hard to reach their goals. I also worked in a third grade class as a teacher's assistant. I helped prepare materials for units, graded math and language arts quizzes and learned to chart results to help plan intervention lessons. I worked with small groups doing activities to reinforce the day's lessons. I also worked with students who had trouble with math and reading. Our third grade class had many students with learning or behavior problems. It was good to learn from other teachers how they dealt with different issues. Some of my education classes also gave me ideas on working with these children. It is important to listen well to your students so they will know your care. I saw a boy’s attitude change because he knew I was willing to listen and that I was concerned about him. I enjoy helping students learn and reach their full potential. I see too many students falling behind and I know they will not do well with just everyday class time. They need one-on-one time. They need to know that you care for them and respect them for who they are. Hobbies

I love music of all types. I took a year of college years ago where I mostly took music and have had several year of piano as a youth. Still love to play just for my own pleasure when I can. I love animals, nature, and hiking. I have six grown children and six young grand children and I also worked at a preschool at one time. Sewing, gardening, and art are of interest to me also. I like reading good fiction as well as books to help me learn more about my interests and to help me be a better teacher. I am always doing research on health and healthy eating.
